Meet the Flock

Welcome to the Woodstock Flock! Here we share the daily triumphs, messy realities, and noisy joys of living with companion parrots. Parrots are not typical pets like dogs or cats—they are complex, lifelong companions. Please take a moment to read the stories of our feathered family.

Sammi the Green-Wing Macaw

Sammi is a 14-year-old female green-winged macaw we adopted after her previous family relocated overseas. She has been blind in her left eye her entire life. For years, Sammi lived in a quiet basement cage with just one perch and a diet of sunflower seeds. Without opportunities for exercise, her muscles atrophied, leaving her unable to fly.

Today, Sammi enjoys a sunny perch beside the window, a constantly rotating selection of foraging toys, and fresh chop with seasonal produce each morning. Although her strength has improved, she will likely never fly again—and that’s okay. Her favorite way to get around is perched on her dad’s arm!

Kiki the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo

Kiki is an 8-year-old female sulphur-crested cockatoo who entered our lives after her previous family moved out of the country. With pristine white feathers and dramatic crest feathers, she looks like royalty—and she definitely knows it. Kiki is charmingly spoiled, extraordinarily particular about her daily routine, and holds everyone around her to very high standards.

Bebop the Congo African Grey

Bebop is a 4-year-old male Congo African grey who came to us alongside Sammi. Early inconsistent care left him with a feather plucking habit that we manage with gentle patience every day. Easily the chatterbox of the flock, Bebop boasts an impressive vocabulary of over 150 words and sounds, chiming into household conversations whenever he sees fit.

Creeper the Double Yellow Headed Amazon

Creeper is a 2-year-old female Double Yellow-Headed Amazon. After years of focusing on large bird rescues, our family wanted the experience of raising a big parrot from babyhood—without the trauma, baggage, or stress that can come with a difficult past. Creeper is bold, brash, and wonderfully outgoing, and she is quickly learning many new words, sounds, and songs.

Feno the Congo African Grey

When 36-year-old Feno was overlooked at our local parrot rescue for six months, we tried to resist his sad face. After losing the primary caregiver he had known for three decades, Feno was surrendered when the family could no longer continue his care. Grief-stricken and withdrawn, he rarely engaged with visitors.

Eventually, we gave in and brought him home. Now, Feno is thriving in his second chance at life. Whether he is chasing our toes or napping in the sun, he is learning how to be happy again.

Ruby the Coconut Lorikeet

Although Ruby may look like a rainbow, she is actually a 9-year-old Coconut Lorikeet! We met Ruby at a local pet store after her previous owner left her there. She spent two years waiting for them to return, but they never did. Today, Ruby has traded her small, lonely cage for a flock of friends and plenty of cuddles with her new family.

As a lorikeet, Ruby requires a specialized nectar diet, which we prepare fresh for her every day.

Starburst the Sun Conure

Starburst is a 2-year-old Sun Conure who has been with us since he was a baby. We found him in a poor breeding situation: unweaned, tiny, and forced to share a small cage with an adult Indian Ringneck. We knew we had to bring him home and give him the chance at a better life.

Today, Starburst is a silly, brave, and affectionate parrot who loves spending his days shredding toys and enjoying time with his human and avian friends.

Poppy and Tango, the Green-Cheek Conures

Poppy and Tango were our family’s first venture into parrot companionship. Now two years old, these Green-Cheek Conures quickly formed a close bond and introduced us to the wonderful world of parrots.

Tango loves being the life of the party, while Poppy is a little more reserved—although she is never afraid to keep Tango in line when necessary. Both are fully flighted and spend their days zipping around the house at high speed, except when it’s time for their other two favourite activities: eating and sleeping.

Coco and Cola the Cockatiels

Who doesn’t love cockatiels? Apparently, everyone in the house—except their mom.

Coco and Cola are a two-year-old brother-and-sister pair of cockatiels, bonded exclusively to each other and their (human) mom. As for everyone and everything else in the house, they seem to exist solely as targets for pooping on.

Cola, the male, likes to greet each morning with a song. His sister Coco, meanwhile, believes the best way to wake up is with a bath. The rest of the day is reserved for shredding toys and quietly preening in the corner.

FOSTER - George the Orange-Wing Amazon

Our family is proud to partner with a local parrot rescue by fostering birds in their care. We devote our time to helping surrendered parrots heal, grow, and prepare for their forever homes.

George is a 45-year-old Orange-Winged Amazon currently in our care after the passing of his primary caregiver. Having spent most of his life in a cage with very little interaction, George is now learning that people can be kind, patient, and trustworthy. This sweet older gentleman has a heart of gold, and we cannot wait for him to find the right person to love and care for him.

"Parrots do not fit into every home, but with the right time, dedication, and care, they thrive as incredible lifelong companions."
